The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has warned the public to be aware of the potential for extreme weather in several regions for the next week. BMKG Deputy for Meteorology Guswanto in Jakarta revealed that based on the latest analysis there are conditions of atmospheric dynamics that trigger the potential for extreme weather in several regions.

He argued that there are several areas that have the potential to experience extreme weather, such as Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, Riau Islands, Bengkulu, Jambi, Bangka Belitung Islands, South Sumatra, Lampung, Banten, DKI Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, DI Yogyakarta, East Java. In addition, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Gorontalo, North Sulawesi, Maluku, West Papua, and Papua also have the potential to experience this extreme weather.

He also explained that the Winter Asian Monsoon, which is often referred to as the west wind season, is one of the factors that trigger extreme weather in several regions. "The Asian Monsoon is starting to show its impact on the potential increase in wet air masses around the Indonesian region, so that the growth of rain clouds in this January period is predicted to be quite intense," he said.

He also urged the public to remain vigilant about the impacts caused by extreme weather, such as floods, flash floods, landslides, slippery roads, fallen trees, and reduced visibility, especially for those who live in steep, mountainous areas, cliffs and areas prone to landslides and other floods.
