The coastal region of the Sea of Japan, was shaken by a 7.4 magnitude earthquake on Monday. Local authorities immediately issued a Tsunami warning.

According to Kyodo news agency, the earthquake that occurred at 16:10 local time had a seismic intensity of up to 7 on the Noto peninsula, and reached a wave point of up to 5 meters in Ishikawa Prefecture. Therefore, many Japanese media outlets have been advising residents to take shelter in higher areas.

"The earthquake will cause dangerous tsunami waves, possibly as far as 300 km from the epicenter, along the coast of Japan," said the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Hawaii. Power generation companies are checking nuclear power in the region for irregularities, but so far there are no dangerous problems.

Japan itself has also been hit by a large tsunami before, on March 11, 2011, which destroyed most of the coastline of the samurai country, and shut down the nuclear reactor at Fukushima.
