Udinus Chess Athletes Win Two Champions at Rector Cup UGM 2024

Two chess athletes from Dian Nuswantoro University (Udinus) have once again achieved national-level success at the 2024 UGM Rector Cup. The tournament, which featured participants from diverse backgrounds and age groups, carried the theme "Unity in Aurora." Udinus managed to win two titles at the event held last week on Sunday (December 15, 2024).

In the Individual Open category, 1st place was won by Udinus Management Undergraduate Program Student, Surya Wahyu Putra. Meanwhile, in the Best Women category, the winner was Evi Yuli Ana, an English undergraduate student.

Surya also made a remarkable achievement by winning the Individual Open title without losing a single game. From the 8 rounds played, he managed to earn 7.5 points with 7 wins and only 1 draw.

According to him, achieving consistent success requires more than just relying on talent. He believes that a solid strategy must be honed by continuously learning from the experiences of world Grandmasters.

For your information, the championship, organized by a state university in Yogyakarta, was divided into three categories: Open, U-18, and U-21, with a total of 277 participants.

Surya added that representing Udinus on the national stage was a proud experience. He hopes that Udinus will continue to provide the best facilities for athletes, including opportunities to participate in tournaments at the international level.

Responding to this achievement, the Head of the Student Affairs Bureau (Bima) of Udinus, Dr. Rindra Yusianto, S.Kom., M.T., also extended his congratulations and expressed hope that the commitment to achieving excellence can be consistently maintained.
