Universitas Dian Nuswantoro (Udinus) Semarang has created a new innovation through renewable energy by processing plastic waste into diesel fuel oil. The project was carried out at the Jeron Village Waste Disposal Site (TPS), Nogosari District, Boyolali Regency, with the hope of providing a solution to plastic waste management in the area.
Through a collaboration between Udinus and the Boyolali Regency Environmental Department (DLH), plastic waste containing polymers is converted into high-value hydrocarbons. This process utilizes pyrolysis technology, an innovative method capable of converting plastic waste into diesel.
Jeron Village was chosen as the best site because the challenges in waste management in this village are still quite high.. The hope is that Jeron Village can become a model for other areas in managing plastic waste into fuel.
Boyolali Head of Environmental Department, Suraji, welcomed the initiative positively. In his view, the plastic waste management has so far only been limited to sorting and selling. However, with technology from Udinus, plastic waste now has a higher economic value.
